Warriors’ James Wiseman plans to train with Kevin Garnett in offseason

Once Wiseman can recover from a knee injury, the rookie plans to hit the gym over the summer with Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett.

When Golden State Warriors rookie James Wiseman becomes healthy enough to begin training again, the second overall pick plans to hit the gym with Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett.

Of course, Wiseman reportedly suffered a torn right meniscus after landing awkwardly on his right knee on Saturday. The team is in the process of seeking multiple medical opinions on the injury and has not set a timetable for his return.

On Monday, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was unsure if Wiseman would return to play this season but the 20-year-old is expected to miss the final 18 games of the season with the injury. The possibility of surgery is also on the table.

Once Wiseman can return to on-court activities, he reportedly plans to train with Garnett over the offseason. According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, the two players have been in contact and plan to link up.

“One thing his mom told me recently was that James already cannot wait for the offseason to train with Kevin Garnett,” Letourneau said on the “Warriors Off Court” podcast. “They actually have reached out to each other and they do have plans to work together this summer.”

The potential to train with Garnett figures to have a great impact on the development of Wiseman. Garnett established himself as one of the best post players in history and the tips and pointers he could provide Wiseman would be invaluable.

That, of course, is dependent on when Wiseman is cleared to resume on-court work, but it will be worth monitoring if the two can get together over the summer.
