Warriors could avoid Victor Wembanyama when facing the Spurs

The Golden State Warriors could avoid Victor Wembanyama when they face the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

The Golden State Warriors will face the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday without Steph Curry, who injured his ankle during the team’s loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. Nevertheless, the Warriors need to continue stacking wins if they intend on cracking the top six of the Western Conference standings.

Fortunately for Steve Kerr’s team, they may avoid a significant roadblock when playing Gregg Popovich‘s team: Rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama is questionable heading into Saturday. The rookie big man is dealing with a sprained right ankle.

Golden State has struggled against teams with size this season. Its lack of a presence in the middle of the floor has led to Draymond Green sliding into the five and operating as a full-time small-ball center. Wembanyama’s height, perimeter scoring and rim protection could cause Golden State significant issues.

The Spurs will undoubtedly reassess Wembanyama ahead of Saturday’s game. However, if he is kept out, it will be a lucky break for a Warriors team attempting to make up for a tough few months earlier in the season.
