Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins receives COVID-19 vaccine, will be available for home games

According to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, Andrew Wiggins has been vaccinated and will be available to play in home games at Chase Center.

Andrew Wiggins will be available to play in all of the Golden State Warriors’ home games for the 2021-22 season.

On Sunday, Steve Kerr confirmed to reporters that Wiggins had received the COVID-19 vaccine prior to the start of the upcoming season. With the city of San Francisco mandating the vaccine for large events, Wiggins wouldn’t have been eligible for home games at Chase Center if he didn’t get vaccinated.

Wiggins initially applied for a religious exemption from the city’s mandate. However, he was denied by the NBA.

If Wiggins continued to hold out against getting vaccinated, he was in jeopardy of not getting paid for the games he missed.

With Wiggins vaccinated, he is slated to play in Golden State’s first preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday.

The former No. 1 overall pick is coming off a solid season with the Warriors, averaging 18.6 points on 47.7% shooting from the floor with 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and a block in 33.3 minutes per game.
