Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller suffered a serious ankle injury at practice Tuesday. We’re tracking updates on Miller’s status on this page.
What happened: The Broncos were practicing indoors because of snow and Miller went down with a freak injury on the last play of practice. He has a tendon injury and is expected to undergo surgery.
What happens next: Miller will consult with Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay on Thursday. After that, Denver will make a decision on Miller’s season. If he has to undergo surgery, Miller will likely be placed on injured reserve.
Backup options: When Bradley Chubb went down with an ankle injury last season, Jeremiah Attaochu replaced him in the starting lineup. Attaochu would likely be the favorite to replace Miller as well. Malik Reed is the only other backup outside linebacker on the Broncos’ roster.
Roster moves: If Miller is placed on injured reserve, Denver will likely add another outside linebacker to the roster. One candidate to watch is former Chicago Bears edge defender Isaiah Irving, who has played under Broncos coach Vic Fangio.
Denver will practice again on Wednesday and Fangio will give an update on Miller’s status then.
