Von Miller says he didn’t want to leave Broncos: ‘This wasn’t my choice’

“I’ll always be a Denver Bronco forever,” Von Miller said. “I’m just here working in L.A. right now.”

Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Von Miller is about to return to the Super Bowl, and he’s obviously very excited about that opportunity.

Miller never planned to leave the Denver Broncos, though. Denver traded Miller to the Rams mid-season in exchange for second- and third-round picks in the 2022 NFL draft.

Now many Broncos fans are rooting for Miller to win another Super Bowl.

“To still have the support from the city is amazing,” Miller said during his media availability on Monday evening. “I didn’t want to leave. It wasn’t me that wanted to leave. I got traded. If it was up to me, I’d still be in Denver trying to figure it out. That’s just how I am, that’s how I’m built.

“It feels good for the city to understand that and for them to know that this wasn’t my choice. I always wanted to retire a Denver Bronco, and I’ll always be a Denver Bronco forever. I’m just here working in L.A. right now.”

Miller is scheduled to become a free agent in March, so there is a chance that Denver could re-sign him this offseason. The Broncos might opt to use their salary cap space for other positions (such as quarterback), so Miller probably won’t return in 2022, but it’s possible that he could return sometime down the road.

Regardless of whether or not he finishes his career in Denver, it’s clear that the Broncos — and their fans — have a special place in Miller’s heart.
