Von Miller can break into top 10 on NFL’s all-time sack list this season

Bills pass rusher Von Miller is 15 sacks away from moving into the top 10 on the NFL’s all-time sack list.

Von Miller already ranks No. 1 on the Denver Broncos’ all-time sack list (110.5). Now he’s climbing the NFL’s all-time list.

Miller, who now plays for the Buffalo Bills, currently ranks 19th overall on the league’s all-time list with 123.5. Five sacks this season would bump him up to No. 16. Ten sacks would bump him to No. 13. Miller will need 15 sacks this year to jump Richard Dent (137.5) and rank in the top 10 on the NFL’s all-time sack list.

A 15-sack season would give Miller 138.5 in his career. That would tie him with former teammate DeMarcus Ware for ninth place on the all-time list. So, how feasible is a 15-sack season for a 34-year-old pass rusher?

Including the postseason, Miller totaled nine sacks in 12 games with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 (that was after he started the year with 4.5 sacks in seven games with the Broncos that year). The NFL’s all-time list only includes regular-season sacks, but Miller is not far removed from a 13.5-sack campaign.

Miller recorded eight sacks in 11 games with the Bills last year before tearing his ACL. If he returns to the pre-injury form and pace that he had in Buffalo, Miller would be poised to have a 12-sack season in 2023.

So cracking the top-10 list might be a lofty goal for this season, but it’s definitely within reach for Miller over the next two years. Miller is already tied for first place on the NFL’s all-time Super Bowl sack list (4.5).

Miller also has Super Bowl rings from his time with the Broncos and Rams. If he reaches a third Super Bowl with the Bills, Miller would need just a half-sack to stand alone at No. 1 on the all-time Super Bowl sack list.
