Tennessee claimed its third Southeastern Conference series of the 2021 season on Sunday at Alabama.
No. 6 Tennessee claimed a 9-8 rubber game victory over Alabama. The Volunteers totaled 15 hits in the contest (16-11, 2-7 SEC).
The Vols (24-5, 7-2 SEC) picked up production from all parts of the lineup.
Luc Lipcius collected three hits and drove in three runs as he reached base five times. Jordan Beck also had three hits and knocked in two runs and scored another.
Jake Rucker came up with three hits, including a double. He stole one base and scored twice for the Vols, who produced three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed.
Beck drove in the game’s first run with a single and Lipcius extended Tennessee’s advantage with a two-run single.
The Crimson Tide pulled even with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
The Vols reclaimed the lead with two runs in the third as Lipcius drew a walk with the bases loaded and Drew Gilbert came home when Connor Pavolony hit into a double play to make it 5-3.
After Alabama pulled to within 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth, the Vols scored a run in the fifth when Gilbert drew a free pass with the bags loaded.
Liam Spence continued to swing a hot bat Sunday as he had an RBI single in the sixth.
Max Ferguson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Beck came up with a scoring single in the eighth for the Vols, who are now 7-0 on in Sunday games this season.
