The No. 5 Volunteers totaled 14 hits en route to an 11-4 series-clinching victory over Missouri Saturday at Taylor Stadium in Columbia.
Tennessee (36-11, 16-7 SEC) started fast as it put up four runs in the top of the first inning. Drew Gilbert had an RBI double and Luc Lipcius came up with a two-run single. Pete Derkay knocked in a run with a hit.
The Vols received offensive production throughout its lineup as leadoff hitter Liam Spence had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs.
Lipcius went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and scored a pair of runs.
Drew Gilbert finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two stolen bases. He knocked in four runs and scored three against the Tigers (12-31, 5-18 SEC).
Missouri scored two runs in the bottom of the first and pulled even with two more in the third.
Tennessee took the lead for good on Evan Russell’s RBI double that plated Gilbert and Jake Rucker, making it 6-4.
The Vols added five more in the sixth as Gilbert cleared the bases with a three-run triple and Lipcius clubbed a two-run homer.
