No. 1 Tennessee suffered its first road loss of the season Thursday in a 13-inning contest at Lexington, Kentucky.
The Volunteers lost, 3-2, at Kentucky Proud Park.
The Wildcats (25-20, 8-14 SEC) clinched the victory on an RBI single by Alonzo Rubalcaba. The contest lasted nearly five hours.
Tennessee (41-5, 19-3 SEC) had five hits and stranded 16 runners in the loss.
The Vols took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when a scoring single by Jorel Ortega plated Kyle Booker.
Ortega went 3-for-7 against the Wildcats.
UT extended its advantage to 2-0 in the third inning. Trey Lipscomb scored when Cortland Lawson drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Kentucky pulled even in the fifth inning as Oraj and Hunter Jump each hit a solo home run.
Tennessee reliever Mark McLaughlin (2-1) recorded the loss.
