Tennessee opened its spring rugby season March 13 at Nashville Rugby Club.
Nashville Rugby Club defeated the Vols, 8-5.
Tennessee was slated to play at South Carolina on Saturday following its match in Nashville. The Vols’ match at South Carolina has been canceled.
Tennessee will return to action March 27 against Nashville Rugby Club. The match will take place in Knoxville at Tennessee Rugby Park. A 1 p.m. EDT start is anticipated.
The University of Tennessee has fielded a club rugby team since 1970.
Tennessee’s first official rugby match took place Oct. 31, 1970 in Huntsville, Alabama, against Redstone Rugby Club. UT defeated Redstone Rugby Club, 8-6, and finished the inaugural 1970-71 year with a 13-3-3 record.
