The Vols have reached the six-win mark during October in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1998-99, according to Tennessee. Last season, Tennessee was 8-0 after the completion of October.

Tennessee won its first six games in 1998, en route to winning the BCS national championship. The Vols were 6-1 at the conclusion of October in 1999.

2023 is the third season for Tennessee under head coach Josh Heupel. Heupel guided the Vols to a 7-5 record in 2021 and was 11-2 in 2022.
