Vols’ momentum on the field helped in recruiting

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee (8-5, 5-3 SEC) finished the 2019 season winning six consecutive contests. The Vols defeated Indiana, 23-22, in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

The season turnaround followed a 1-4 start to the 2019 campaign, which saw home losses to Georgia State and BYU in the first two contests.

Jeremy Pruitt discussed if momentum from the Vols’ six-game win streak helped on the recruiting trail in assembling Tennessee’s 2020 signing class.

“I think recruiting has a little bit of momentum to it,” Pruitt said on National Signing Day. “When you get guys that start committing to a certain school, guys want to be a part of that. Right now, we won six games and seven out of our last eight. That created some momentum on the field and some momentum in December.

“We have done a nice job closing in the Early Signing Period, and the spots that we had to fill today (National Signing Day) I couldn’t be happier about the guys that we added to this group. I feel like the momentum we did create on the field, it had an effect on recruiting.”

Tennessee signed 21 players during the Early Signing Period and two on National Signing Day.
