Vols defeat Texas A&M in series opener

Tennessee baseball defeats Texas A&M in series opener.

No. 12 Tennessee (17-6, 1-3 SEC) defeated No. 18 Texas A&M (15-7, 1-3 SEC), 10-4, Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

After trailing, 2-0, the Vols scored five runs in the first inning as Kavares Tears hit a two-run double. Hunter Ensley recorded an RBI with a double. Jared Dickey hit an RBI single and Christian Moore produced Tennessee’s first run with a groundout.

The Aggies pulled to within, 5-3, in the second inning,

Tennessee scored two runs in the second inning as Moore and Zane Denton hit RBI singles, extending the Vols’ lead to 7-3.

Tennessee scored two runs in the fifth inning. Denton scored on a wild pitch and Tears recorded an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Blake Burke hit a solo home run in the seventh inning before the Aggies scored its final run of the contest in the eighth inning,

Chase Dollander pitched 6.2 innings for the Vols. He allowed three runs, three hits and two walks, while recording eight strikeouts.

Seth Halvorsen pitched 2.1 innings. He allowed one run and one walk, while recording one strikeout.
