Vols defeat Ole Miss to claim series

The Vols defeat Ole Miss to claim the three-game series.

No. 5 Tennessee posted another dominant Southeastern Conference road win over a top-5 opponent Saturday.

Tennessee (22-1, 5-0 SEC) defeated No. 2 Ole Miss (16-6, 2-3 SEC) in Oxford, 10-3, clinching the series.

Tennessee scored twice in the first inning and added another run in the second to open a 3-0 lead.

In the opening inning, Drew Gilbert had an RBI double and later scored when Trey Lipscomb singled to make the score, 2-0. UT added a run in the second inning when a sacrifice fly by Jared Dickey plated Luc Lipcius.

The Vols extended its advantage to 6-0 in the fourth inning as Evan Russell had a scoring single. Seth Stephenson recorded a two-run double.

The Vols scored two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Lipcius and a hit by Jorel Ortega.

In the eighth inning, Gilbert had an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch.

Gilbert and Lipscomb each had three hits, while Stephenson went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, two stolen bases and one double.

On the mound, Chase Dollander (4-0) had a dominant performance as he pitched 6.1 innings. He allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out 10.

Will Mabrey, Ben Joyce and Wyatt Evans each appeared in relief for the Vols.

The Rebels scored with a pair of late home runs.

Tim Elko hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning and Kemp Alderman had a solo home run in the ninth.
