Vols comeback to defeat Austin Peay

Recapping UT’s win in Clarksville Wednesday night.

Five unanswered runs in the top of the fifth inning allowed for the Tennessee baseball team to record a comeback victory at Austin Peay Wednesday night.

The No. 17 Volunteers erased an early deficit to capture a 5-3 victory over the Governors in Clarksville.

Both Austin Peay (1-6) and Tennessee (8-2) scored runs in bunches Wednesday.

The Governors tallied three times in the bottom of the third inning to dart out to a 3-0 lead before the Vols scored all five times in the top of the fifth.

In that frame, Jake Rucker had a two-run single and Liam Spence picked up an RBI on a hit. Drew Gilbert knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Jackson Greer, a product of Knoxville Central High School, picked up an RBI for the Vols when he was hit by a pitch.

Greer went 1-for-3 in the contest with a double an RBI and a run, while Rucker was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run. Spence went 1-for-3 with one run and drove in a run. He walked twice.

On the mound, Elijah Pleasants pitched six innings of scoreless relief. He surrendered three hits and struck out six.
