KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

Vols Wire is taking a look at each calendar date that Tennessee has played on in its program history.

September 25

The Vols have played 14 times on Sept. 25 and they have been successful in games contested on that date, compiling a record of 9-4-1.

The Volunteers first played on Sept. 25 in 1915 when they hosted Carson-Newman. Tennessee notched a 101-0 victory over the Eagles, who hailed from Jefferson City.

In 1920, UT shut out Emory & Henry 45-0. In 1926, the Vols outlasted Carson-Newman 13-0.

The Vols notched a shutout victory over Wake Forest, defeating the Demon Deacons, 32-0, in 1937.

In 1948, the Vols lost to Mississippi State 21-6 in Knoxville.

The Big Orange and the Bulldogs tangled in Memphis in 1954 and the Vols prevailed, 19-7.

In 1965, Tennessee and Auburn played to a 13-13 tie. The Tigers and Vols collided again in 1971 with Auburn edging the Big Orange, 10-9.

Auburn and UT met again in 1976 and the Tigers won, 38-28, in Birmingham. In 1982, the two teams played at Auburn and the Tigers won, 24-14.

Tennessee beat LSU, 42-20, in 1993, and in 1999, the Vols edged Memphis 17-16.

Louisiana Tech came to Neyland Stadium in 2004 and the Vols routed the Bulldogs, 42-17.

UT last played on Sept. 25 in 2010 and the Vols outlasted UAB, 32-29, in double-overtime.
