The Volunteers have played 15 times on this date and have compiled a record of 10-5 on Oct. 8.
UT first played on Oct. 8 in 1910 when it shut out Mooney School, 7-0.
In 1921, the Vols blanked in-state rival Chattanooga 21-0. Tennessee posted another shutout over a one-time in-state rival in 1927 when they outlasted Maryville College, 7-0.
In 1932, the Vols nabbed a 20-7 victory over North Carolina.
The Big Orange downed Auburn, 7-0, in 1938.
In 1949, the Vols routed Chattanooga 39-7. The Mocs and Volunteers met again in 1955 with Tennessee claiming a 13-0 victory.
1960 saw Tennessee route Tampa, 62-7.
In 1966, the Vols lost to Georgia Tech 6-3. The Yellow Jackets routed UT, 24-8, in 1977.
In 1983, Tennessee defeated to LSU 20-6, and in 1994, the Big Orange upended Arkansas 38-21.
UT lost to Georgia 27-14 in 2005. The Vols also lost to the Bulldogs, 20-12, in 2011.
UT last played on Oct. 8 in 2016 when it lost to Texas A&M, 45-38.
