KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

The Volunteers have played 16 games on Oct. 31 and they have amassed a 13-3 record in tilts contested on that date.

Tennessee first played on Oct. 31 in 1903 when it shut out Nashville, 10-0.

In 1908, the Vols edged Georgia Tech 6-5. UT dropped a 48-0 decision to Mississippi State in 1910.

In 1914, Tennessee blanked Chattanooga 67-0. Georgia downed the Volunteers, 12-7, in 1925.

The Vols routed Duke, 25-2, in 1931. In 1936, Tennessee shut out Georgia 46-0.

The Big Orange blanked LSU, 26-0, in 1942. In 1953, Tennessee toppled North Carolina 20-6. The Vols and Tar Heels tangled on the gridiron again in 1959 with UT claiming a 29-7 victory.

In 1970, the Vols defeated Wake Forest 40-7 in Memphis.

The Volunteers lost to Boston College, 20-18, in 1987. In 1992, South Carolina edged the Big Orange 24-23.

In 1998, Tennessee routed the Gamecocks 49-14. The Vols beat South Carolina 31-13 on a night when the Vols, coached by Lane Kiffin, donned black jerseys.

Tennessee last played on Halloween in 2015 when it routed Kentucky, 52-21.
