The Volunteers have played 17 times on Oct. 22 and they have enjoyed success on this date. UT has an 11-5-1 record in games contested on that date.

Tennessee first played on Oct. 22 in 1896 when it notched a 10-6 victory over Williamsburg.

The Volunteers and in-state rival Vanderbilt played to a scoreless tie in 1900. Georgia Tech edged the Vols, 2-0, in 1904.

In 1910, the Vols lost to Georgia 35-5. In 1921, the Big Orange blanked the Florida Gators 9-0.

1927 saw the Volunteers route Transylvania, 57-0. Tennessee posted a 60-0 victory over Maryville College in 1932.

Tennessee blanked The Citadel, 44-0, in 1938. In 1949, UT toppled Tennessee Tech 36-6. The Vols defeated Dayton, 57-7, in 1955.

In 1960, the Big Orange shut out Chattanooga 35-0. The Volunteers beat South Carolina, 29-17, in 1966.

In 1977, Florida outlasted the Vols 27-17.

1983 saw the Volunteers defeat Georgia Tech, 37-3. In 1988, Tennessee downed Memphis State 38-25.

In 2005, Alabama edged UT 6-3 in a victory later vacated by the Crimson Tide due to NCAA sanctions.

The Vols last played on Oct. 22 in 2011 when they lost to Alabama, 37-6.
