The Volunteers have played 21 times on Oct. 21 and they have a record of 9-11-1 in games contested on that date.

Tennessee first played on Oct. 21 in 1892 when it lost to Vanderbilt, 22-4.

The Vols were shut out, 56-0, by Kentucky A&M in 1893. In 1899, Virginia Tech blanked the Volunteers 5-0.

In 1902, UT routed Maryville College 34-0. Vanderbilt beat the Big Orange, 45-0, in 1905.

1907 saw the Vols edge Clemson, 4-0. Tennessee downed Maryville, 22-5, in 1911.

In 1916, UT shut out South Carolina 26-0. Georgia outlasted Tennessee, 7-3, in 1922.

In 1933, the Vols lost to Alabama 12-6. The Volunteers blanked the Crimson Tide, 21-0, in 1939. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in 1944.

The Big Orange edged the Tide, 14-9, in 1950. Alabama routed Tennessee, 34-3, in 1961.

1967 saw UT topple Alabama, 24-13. In 1972, the Tide defeated Tennessee 17-10.

In 1978, the Crimson Tide beat Tennessee 30-17. In 1989, Alabama routed the Vols 47-30, and in 2000, the Vols prevailed in the long-running series 20-10.

In 2006, the Volunteers edged Alabama 16-13.

UT last played on Oct. 21 in 2017 when it lost to the Crimson Tide.
