The Volunteers have not enjoyed much success in games contested on Oct. 20. They have played 16 times on that date and amassed a record of 5-11.
Tennessee and longtime Southeastern Conference rival Alabama have met 14 times on Oct. 20 with the Crimson Tide having an 8-6 advantage in games contested on that date.
UT first played on Oct. 20 in 1906 when it lost to Centre College, 6-0.
In 1923, the Vols lost to Georgia 17-0.
Tennessee and the Crimson Tide first met on Oct. 20 in 1928 with the Volunteers coming off the field with a narrow, 15-13, victory.
The Crimson Tide edged the Vols, 16-13, in 1934.
In 1945, Alabama prevailed 25-7.
Tennessee then won in both 1951 and 1956. In 1951, the Volunteers won 27-13. In 1956, UT blanked the Crimson Tide 24-0.
In 1962, Alabama notched a 27-7 victory. In 1973, the Crimson Tide captured a 42-21 win.
1979 saw Alabama outlast the Volunteers, 27-17. The Vols edged Alabama, 28-27, in 1984. In 1990, the Crimson Tide notched a 9-6 victory in the long-running series.
Tennessee defeated Alabama, 35-24, in 2001.
The Crimson Tide have notched wins in 2007 (41-17), 2012 (44-13) and 2018 (58-21).
