The Volunteers have played 11 times on Oct. 16. They have an outright record of 5-3-2, but they were awarded a win by the NCAA against Alabama in 1993.
The Vols and Crimson Tide played to a 17-17 tie, however Tennessee was awarded a victory when Alabama was forced to vacate all wins and ties during that season due to violations being committed.
Tennessee is officially 6-4-1 in games played on that date.
The Vols first played on Oct. 16 in 1909 when they lost, 17-0, to Kentucky State.
In 1915, the Volunteers routed Centre College 80-0. UT downed Chattanooga, 35-0, in 1920.
In 1948, Tennessee beat Alabama 21-6. Alabama blanked the Big Orange, 27-0, in 1954.
Alabama and Tennessee tangled again on the gridiron in 1965 and played to a 7-7 tie in Birmingham.
The Crimson Tide toppled the Volunteers, 32-15, in 1971.
In 1976, the Tide outlasted the Big Orange 20-13.
1982 saw the Vols edge Alabama, 35-28, in the last game Bear Bryant coached at Neyland Stadium.
The Volunteers last played on Oct. 16 in 2004 when they edged Ole Miss, 21-17.
