Recapping how Tennessee has fared in games played on Oct. 15

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

Vols Wire is looking at each calendar date that Tennessee has played on in its program history.

The Volunteers have played 19 times on Oct. 15 and they’ve posted a 9-8-2 record in games contested on that date.

Tennessee first played on Oct. 15 in 1892 when it shut out Maryville College, 25-0.

The Volunteers blanked King, 28-0, in 1897. In 1904, Tennessee and Nashville played to a 0-0 tie.

In 1910, Vanderbilt notched a 10-0 victory over the Vols.

1921 saw UT lose to Dartmouth, 14-3. The Vols edged Maryville College, 6-0, in 1926.

In 1927, the Volunteers routed Ole Miss 27-7. In 1932, the Vols outlasted Alabama 7-3. Tennessee beat the Crimson Tide, 13-0, in 1938.

Tennessee and Alabama played to a 7-7 in Birmingham in 1949.

The Vols then won two consecutive games against the Crimson Tide in 1955 and 1960. The Big Orange blanked Alabama, 20-0, in 1955 and routed the Tide, 20-7, in 1960.

In 1966, Alabama edged the Vols 11-10. The Crimson Tide downed the Vols, 24-10, in 1977.

UT edged Alabama, 41-34, in Birmingham in 1983.

In 1988 Alabama claimed the game between the two longtime Southeastern Conference rivals, 28-20. The Crimson Tide outlasted the Vols, 17-13, in 1994.

In 2011, the Volunteers lost to LSU 38-7.

UT last played on Oct. 15 in 2016 when it lost, 49-10, to Alabama.
