KNOXVILLE — Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

The Volunteers have played 15 times on Oct. 13. UT has fared well in games contested on the date, going 11-4.

The Big Orange first played on Oct. 13 in 1906. UT lost to Maryville College, 11-0.

In 1923, the Vols edged Georgetown 13-6. 1928 saw Tennessee outlast Ole Miss, 13-12.

The Vols and Rebels played again in 1934 with Tennessee prevailing, 27-0.

Tennessee has played Chattanooga three times on Oct. 13 with UT winning all contests. The Vols shut out the Mocs, 30-0, in 1945. Tennessee downed Chattanooga, 42-13, in 1951. In 1956, the Vols won 42-20.

In 1962, the Volunteers were blanked by Georgia Tech 17-0.

The Big Orange beat the Yellow Jackets, 20-14, in 1973. The Vols beat Georgia Tech, 31-0, in 1979.

In 1984, Florida beat Tennessee 43-30. UT routed the Gators, 45-3, in 1990.

In 2007, the Vols outlasted Mississippi State 33-21. 2018 saw UT edge Auburn, 30-24.
