Recapping how UT has fared in football games played on Oct. 11

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

Vols Wire is looking at each calendar date that Tennessee has played on in its program history.

The Volunteers have played 18 times on Oct. 11 and the Big Orange have gone 13-4-1 in games contested on that date.

The Vols first played on Oct. 11 in 1899 when they defeated King, 11-5. UT also played King in 1902 and notched a 12-0 victory.

In 1913, Tennessee blanked Maryville College 35-0.

In 1919, the Vols and Vanderbilt played to a 3-3 tie. In 1924 the Volunteers topped Maryville, 28-10. The Big Orange shut out Ole Miss, 27-0, in 1930.

1941 saw Tennessee route Dayton, 26-0. The Vols beat Chattanooga, 26-7, in 1947. The two in-state rivals played again in 1952 with the Volunteers winning, 26-6.

In 1958, the Vols lost to Georgia Tech 21-7. UT toppled the Yellow Jackets, 26-8, in 1969.

Tennessee beat LSU, 24-10, in 1975. In 1980, the Big Orange downed Georgia Tech 23-10.

Army edged Tennessee, 25-21, in 1986. Tennessee beat Georgia, 38-17, in 1997.

Georgia routed the Volunteers, 41-14, in 2003. In 2008, the Bulldogs outlasted the Vols 26-14.

UT last played on Oct. 11 in 2014 when it routed Chattanooga, 45-10.
