KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

Vols Wire is looking at each calendar date that Tennessee has played on in its program history.

The Volunteers have played 17 times on Nov. 1. UT has a record of 10-6-1 in games contested on that date.

Tennessee first played on Nov. 1 in 1900. The Vols lost that game to North Carolina, 22-5.

In 1902, the Vols blanked the University of the South 6-0. UT shut out Chattanooga, 21-0, in 1913.

1919 saw Tennessee and North Carolina played to a scoreless tie.

In 1924, the Vols dropped a 33-0 decision to Georgia. In 1930, Tennessee routed Clemson 27-0.

In 1941, the Volunteers edged LSU 13-6.

North Carolina defeated Tennessee 20-6 in 1947. 1952 saw the Big Orange topple the Tar Heels, 41-14. The two teams met again in 1958 with the Tar Heels claiming a 21-7 victory.

In 1969, the Big Orange edged Georgia 17-13. Tennessee routed Colorado State, 28-7, in 1975.

In 1980, Virginia outlasted the Vols 16-13. In 1997, Tennessee downed South Carolina 22-7.

In 2003, UT defeated Duke 23-6, and in 2008, South Carolina routed Tennessee 27-6.

The Vols last played on Nov. 1 in 2014 when they beat the Gamecocks, 45-42, in overtime.
