Vol Network to re-air 2001 victory at Florida.

KNOXVILLE — This week’s Vol Network Classic will showcase Tennessee’s 2001 victory over Florida in Gainesville.

The game, which was postponed in September due to the 9/11 tragedy, was played on Dec. 1 with the Southeastern Conference East Division title hanging in the balance.

Adding to the drama surrounding the game was the fact that the Gators, coached by the man Tennessee fans love to hate, Steve Spurrier, had long been a nemesis for the Big Orange, often preventing them from winning league or national championships.

Tennessee knocked off the Gators in 1998 and went on to win the inaugural BCS national championship.

In 2001, UT nabbed a dramatic 34-32 victory at The Swamp and running back Travis Stephens had a big day, rushing for 226 yards and two touchdowns.

Jabari Davis also ran for a pair of scores for the Vols, who darted out to a 14-0 lead and had to come back from a 20-14 halftime deficit against the second-ranked Gators.

Tennessee entered the game ranked fifth.

The game will re-air on Saturday at noon (ET) on WNML-FM 99.1 and WNML-AM 990 with Bob Kesling on the call.
