Virginia Tech at Boston College odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Virginia Tech Hokies at Boston College Eagles odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

On Friday evening, the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-4) visit Alumni Stadium to take on the Boston College Eagles (4-4). The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Virginia Tech at Boston College odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Virginia Tech may be coming in with four losses, but it really hasn’t lost any surprising games aside from a five-point defeat to the hand of Syracuse. Other than that, the Hokies lost to Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

The Hokies don’t have an overly explosive offense, averaging 24.0 points per game. However, Virginia Tech fourth-year junior QB Braxton Burmeister has been thriving this season, nearing 1,500 passing yards.

It will be the Tech defense that must hold up though against a run-heavy Boston College. The Eagles are averaging over 150 rushing yards per game, mainly behind three-star recruit RB Pat Garwo III.

Boston College has also recently lost to Syracuse. The Eagles are currently on a four-game losing streak and are looking to bounce back at home in what should be a competitive matchup.

Virginia Tech at Boston College odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Virginia Tech 31, Boston College 24

Money line

PASS on the Virginia Tech money line as it’s just a tad bit too pricey. I like  Virginia Tech (-155) here in a parlay as I do think the Hokies win at Boston College. However, I’d rather take the points with Virginia Tech.

Against the spread

BET on VIRGINIA TECH -2.5 (-125) as Boston College has been embarrassingly bad lately. The Eagles started the season on a four-game win streak and have since lost four straight.

Most aren’t even good losses either, getting doubled up on by Louisville and losing by 26 to NC State. BC is dependent on the run game a bit too much for my liking as well.

As for Virginia Tech, Burmeister has proven to be a great game manager with just 3 interceptions in 9 games so I expect few turnovers. BC gave up nearly 300 yards on the ground last week.

BC’s run defense is that bad, and the Eagles have been struggling. I’m going with the more proven side laying just 2.5 points.

Over/Under

BET on the OVER 47.5 (-110) as Virginia Tech’s defense is bad at defending what the BC offense does best.

Virginia Tech can’t defend the run well. The Hokies are giving up more than 175 rushing yards per game. Coming off just a six-point effort against Syracuse at home, Virginia Tech should be looking to rebound.

BC scored 40-plus in three of four games to start the season and hasn’t topped 15 once on this losing streak. Virginia Tech has given up 28 or more in three of its last four. BC’s offense should be able to get back on track vs. this soft Virginia Tech defense.

With Virginia Tech having a more balanced attack, the Hokies should be able to put some points as well, likely covering that spread and cashing the Over on the road.
