Democrat Governor Ralph Northam signed bill SB-1126 in March 2019, allowing the Virginia Lottery System to expand gambling in the Old Dominion. There were 10 other gambling expansion bills failed or vetoed in the legislature. However, SB-1126 is passed and sports wagering could be offered depending upon a voter referendum.

None, but that could change depending on the results of resident voting to expand betting. Democrat Senator Louise Lucas introduced the bill which would mean opening commercial casinos in Bristol, Danville and Portsmouth, as well as on Native American land near Norfolk and Richmond.
The Virginia Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology called for a study on gambling’s impact with a mandate requiring the review be completed by Nov. 1.
