Back in 2014, one college football icon from the Lone Star State was cut for another, and that story was recalled this past week.
Texas A&M legend Johnny Manziel had former Longhorns quarterback Vince Young on his podcast “Glory Daze” on Thursday. During the interview, Manziel and Young rewinded to a decade prior when the former was starting his NFL career while the latter was getting ready to hang it up.
“First of all, you got me cut,” Young proclaimed. “They called me and it was like, ‘Vince, you gotta come in,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, here we go.’ So I got in there and they’re like, ‘Vince, we’re going to be cutting you and we’re going to be going forward with another guy.’
“Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator at the time and he was calling me like,’ Why the hell are you not in meetings?’ I’m like, ‘What? They didn’t tell you that they cut me?’ He was pissed!”
Perhaps Manziel’s professional career wouldn’t have ended so quickly if he had a mentor like Young in the Cleveland Browns locker room.
