Minnesota took CB Mike Hughes in the first round of the 2018 draft. Since then, his career has been marred by injuries and inconsistent play.
Now, Hughes has a chance to find his stride in the NFL with a new team. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Vikings have dealt Hughes to the Chiefs. Per ESPN’s Field Yates, Kansas City gave up a 2022 sixth-round pick to Minnesota in exchange for Hughes and a 2022 seventh-round pick.
Hughes has played in just 24 regular season games in his three-year NFL career. He is coming off a 2020 where he played in just four games. He had a PFF grade of 54.4 in those four games this past season.
Hughes’ long-term future with the Vikings was up in the air after the team declined his fifth-year option. If he can stay healthy, Kansas City may have found a decent option at cornerback. However, that’s a big if at this point.
