Vikings’ star WR limited by ankle injury in practice

The Vikings offense may have suffered a significant blow during Wednesday’s practice.

Injuries were never a problem for Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen. When he went down this year with a hamstring injury that cost him six games, it was the first time in his six NFL seasons that he missed a game.

After a full practice Tuesday, Thielen landed on the participation report as a ‘limited’ participant due to an ankle injury he sustained during Wednesday’s session.

There’s no word on the severity of the injury, but with the game set to take place Saturday at 1:35 pm Pacific Time, and a cross country flight ahead for the Vikings, Thielen’s ankle injury is worth keeping a close eye on.

While his production dipped with just a 10-game sample size this season, he was prolific in the Vikings’ wild card upset of the Saints. The 29-year-old reeled in seven of his nine targets for 129 yards and a touchdown. He also pulled in the biggest catch of the game – a 43-yard bomb to put the Vikings at the Saints’ 2-yard line on the first drive of overtime.

San Francisco is already getting healthy on defense, which should help them slow down a Minnesota offense full of playmakers. If Thielen is either out or limited by an ankle, it would make the Vikings much easier to defend.

We’ll monitor this closely and we should know more when the official status report is released Thursday.
