Vikings slip in Touchdown Wire power rankings

The Vikings rank 24th. Fair or foul?

For the second week in a row, the Vikings lost a close game to an opponent with a better record.

This time, Minnesota fell to Baltimore in overtime, 34-31, in Week 9. The Vikings got what they deserved in Touchdown Wire’s latest power rankings: the team slipped to No. 24 after being ranked No. 21 the previous week. Touchdown Wire’s Nick Wojton wrote:

“The Vikings are back to falling short in any way possible. The latest was an overtime loss to the Ravens. Minnesota did allow a 14-point lead to evaporate this time, though. Not a good look.”

Overall, I think 24th is a fair place to put the Vikings relative to other teams in the league. Minnesota has been disappointing despite the high expectations.

The Vikings notched their record to 3-5 with the loss. Minnesota’s depleted secondary struggled at times against Baltimore. This week, the Vikings play the Chargers, a team that can take even more advantage of inconsistent pass coverage.
