Vikings select Auburn CB Noah Igbinoghene in Touchdown Wire mock draft

Surprise, surprise: The Vikings draft a cornerback in the first round of a mock draft.

Our friends at Touchdown Wire think the Vikings will draft a cornerback, a position that lacks depth and carries a lot of importance in Mike Zimmer’s defense.

Minnesota nabbed Auburn corner Noah Igbinoghene in the first round of a Touchdown Wire post-combine mock draft.

Here’s some of what they said about Igbinoghene:

“Igbinoghene is a very intriguing prospect at the cornerback spot. I found him to be a technically sound man coverage cornerback. He is also a sure tackler in open field situations. He also does a good job recovering when beaten on vertical routes, raking up through the catch point to disrupt the receiver on the catch attempt.”

Igbinoghene’s good recovery would be beneficial for the Vikings defense next season, especially if Anthony Harris walks. For corners on Minnesota’s defense, help over the top might be a rookie or a player who was a reserve last year. It would help to have a corner who, even when beaten, can get back in the play and possibly break up the pass.

The defense also likes to utilize man-to-man coverage a lot, so Igbinoghene being good at that makes it an even better fit.
