With Dalvin Cook reportedly refraining from team-related activities until he receives a new deal, there will be some concern about whether Cook will hold out into the regular season.
If Cook hypothetically isn’t available, look for running backs Alexander Mattison and Mike Boone to fill in the void.
Mattison was recently listed as a fantasy football sleeper by ESPN. He is coming off a season where he had 462 rushing yards and one touchdown, while Boone had 273 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
ESPN defines a sleeper as “a player who will far surpass his average draft position (ADP) in standard ESPN leagues for the 2020 season.”
If Cook misses any time, I think Mattison would get most of the carries, with Boone being a more limited option.
That would put Mattison at the forefront of a run-heavy Vikings offense. In fact, Minnesota has the run-heaviest offense in the NFL, ESPN’s Mike Clay reported.
Hopefully for the Vikings, a team that appears to be in win-now mode, they can reach a new deal with Cook and he can be on the field for all of 2020. If not, Mattison could possibly have a big year.
