The Minnesota Vikings announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have released running back Myles Gaskin.
This was likely to happen after the Cam Akers trade was announced last week. He was brought in initially to fill the roster spot occupied by Kene Nwangwu who is nursing a back injury and currently on injured reserve.
After spending four seasons in Miami, Gaskin joined the Vikings the day after cutdown day to replace Nwangwu on the roster. He was then cut two days before the opening game to be put on the practice squad. It was a procedural move to make sure that his full salary wouldn’t be guaranteed for the entire season.
Gaskin suited up for the Vikings in each of the first three games but didn’t record a single rush, catch or target. His departure opens up a roster spot for the Vikings and he is available to sign with any team immediately.
