After the Vikings offense struggled at times in 2018, Minnesota fully switched to a system that emphasized running the ball more often this past season.
That led to Vikings running back Dalvin Cook putting together a career year. Cook had 1,135 rushing yards, 519 receiving yards and 13 rushing touchdowns in 2019, all of which were career bests.
At The Huddle, they’re projecting Cook to put up more total yards, rushing yards and touchdowns than he did in 2019.
The outlet projects Cook to have 1,300 rushing yards and 480 receiving yards for a total of 1,780. The Huddle tabbed Cook to reach 15 total touchdowns — 14 rushing and one receiving.
Here are their thoughts on Cook:
“He finally had a big year with 1,135 rushing yards and 13 TDs plus 53 catches for 519 yards while missing ‘only’ two games. Cook is an injury waiting to happen for the first three seasons and of his 48 possible games, he’s only made it to 29 of them. That’s a problem for a team thinking about laying down major cash for a long-term deal. There is no question that Cook is talented and can be productive. He was the #6 RB last year. His pace over 16 games would have made him short of only Christian McCaffery so he does merit a raise. MIN had the #3 best rushing schedule in 2019. This year they have #2.”
The Huddle thinks highly of Cook, but not so much of the Vikings offensive line. The outlet said that besides Josh Kline, “the starting lineup returns from 2019. The Vikings are moving on to OC Gary Kubiak but OL coach Rick Dennison remains from last year. Dalvin Cook – when healthy – makes the offensive line look better than it is.”
Cook will need to make the offensive line look good again if the Vikings intend to have a deep run in the playoffs. Cook is currently going as the RB5, according to MyFantasyLeague, meaning he would be a first-round choice in most leagues. Are you going to draft him?
