Vikings quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko joining the rival Bears

Andrew Janocko is joining the rival Bears.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins won’t only have a new head coach and offensive coordinator in 2022, but he’ll also have a new quarterbacks coach with Andrew Janocko leaving the team.

Per the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling, the former Vikings quarterbacks coach is “expected to take the same job” with the rival Chicago Bears. So instead of working with Cousins, he’ll be trying to help with the development of rookie first-round draft pick Justin Fields.

Janocko’s work within the Vikings organization stems all the way back to 2015, when he was working as an offensive quality control coach. He was also an assistant offensive line coach and wide receivers coach before eventually earning the title of quarterback whisperer.

It isn’t so much a problem of Janocko leaving as it is with him joining the Bears. That’s a tough pill to swallow for Vikings fans, especially if Fields has any dramatic improvements in 2022 and beyond.

Janocko joins former Vikings offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and special teams coach Ryan Ficken as assistants moving on to other jobs.

It’s the nature of the business for a team underdoing a massive facelift right now.
