Vikings QB Kirk Cousins told Dak Prescott the franchise tag can be your friend

Kirk Cousins, who was franchise tagged twice by the Redskins, has some advice for Dak Prescott.

When Kirk Cousins was on the Redskins, he was franchise tagged two years in a row. Cousins still managed to later sign a big deal with the Vikings.

The Minnesota quarterback has advice regarding the franchise tag, that he told Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who was given the franchise tag this offseason.

Here’s what he said on ESPN:

“So my message to Dak, when I saw him midseason last year, was, ‘Hey, whatever happens, don’t be afraid of the tag. It can be your friend, and you can use it to your advantage.'”

Cousins also talked a little bit about the Vikings current situation with the franchise tag.

“Anybody who I run into who’s been franchise tagged, we have one on our team this year in Anthony Harris, I believe the franchise tag can be your friend. I don’t think it’s something to be disappointed with. I think it enables you to be well compensated, and deservedly so, for the upcoming season. Then, I always say the cream will rise to the top.”

We’ll have to see if it works out for Prescott and Harris down the road.
