Vikings QB Kirk Cousins named 11th best quarterback in the NFL

Vikings QB Kirk Cousins ranked 11th in a recent quarterback power rankings. Fair or foul?

Throughout his Vikings career, QB Kirk Cousins has drawn criticism and praise across the landscape of Minnesota fandom. This year, Cousins has quieted the naysayers through the first six games.

The Vikings quarterback has 1769 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and two interceptions. Cousins is making plays and the team is winning games because of him.

However, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin did not have Cousins in the top 10 of a recent quarterback power rankings. Benjamin did have praise for the Vikings QB, though:

“Probably the most underappreciated QB on this list, if we’re being frank. He’s not just racking up yards but doing it when it matters, helping the team stay afloat in a ton of close games.”

Cousins ranked behind Cincinnati QB Joe Burrow, which I don’t think is entirely fair. Burrow has more passing yards and touchdowns, but Cousins has fewer interceptions and a higher PFF grade. In my opinion, Cousins is the better quarterback, but Burrow’s numbers exceed Cousins’ in certain areas due to the Bengals’ aggressive play calling.

That’s not a bad thing, either. I can see why people think Burrow is a better quarterback. The Cincinnati offense puts him in a better position to make plays and move the ball. The Vikings should do the same. Maybe then Cousins can move up on some of these lists.
