Vikings pull the trigger, sign G Dalton Risner

Rejoice fans, the Vikings finally signed Dalton Risner

The Minnesota Vikings have fulfilled the wishes of the fanbase and are signing guard Dalton Risner. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the signing. Terms of the deal have not been announced.

The fanbase was all over the idea of signing Risner after the Vikings brought him in for a visit back in August. With Chris Reed still out and Oli Udoh about to be placed on injured reserve, adding depth on the offensive line was crucial.

The move signals that Risner is likely the backup guard and Blake Brandel will likely move back to tackle.

Risner is close with Vikings offensive line coach Chris Kuper, who coached him in Denver and attended Risner’s wedding. That likely helped facilitate the move.

As a pass blocker, Risner was effective last season with a 73.6 grade. His run blocking wasn’t quite as good with a grade of 53.4. With run blocking being the big issue with the offensive line at the moment, that is something worth monitoring.
