For Mike Zimmer, cornerback is considered the coach’s specialty. With two veterans at corner, the Vikings may have to take another one in the first round of 2022.
That’s what Jordan Reid of ESPN thinks anyway. Reid has Minnesota drafting Andrew Booth Jr., a cornerback out of Clemson, at No. 18. Reid wrote:
“Minnesota’s long-term outlook at cornerback looks bleak. In past early-round selections at the position, the Vikings front office has shown to value versatile cornerbacks who are also consistent run defenders. Booth is one of the best in this class at both of those, and so he’d check the boxes that the regime has coveted.”
There is a caveat to this pick. Reid wrote that Booth checks the boxes that this current Vikings regime covets. But what if Minnesota changes regimes before the draft? It wouldn’t be shocking. The Vikings are 4-5 at the moment. The team may need to at least make the playoffs this season. Or else, a regime change could be on the horizon.
