Vikings GM Rick Spielman on taking a QB: No position is off limits

Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman didn’t show his hand when asked about taking a quarterback, but he also didn’t say no.

The Vikings are pretty locked in at starter for the short term. Kirk Cousins is still under contract for two more years. His deal makes it hard to cut or trade him as well.

Although, Minnesota can always look for something else in the meantime. The Vikings have yet to re-sign Sean Mannion, the team’s backup quarterback from 2019 and 2020, so the spot below Cousins on the depth chart is still up for grabs.

Asked about whether he will take a quarterback this draft, Spielman didn’t show his hand, but didn’t rule out the possibility, either.

“There is no position that is off limits going into this draft,” Spielman said. “I’ll just leave it at that.”

A project quarterback could be a good fit for the Vikings. They don’t have an open starting quarterback spot at the moment, but if that player develops down the road, he could be a good replacement for Cousins.
