The bad news: the Vikings lost to the then-winless Lions in embarrassing fashion this week, falling to 5-7 overall.
The good news: at least Minnesota gets a better draft pick with the defeat.
The Vikings would have the No. 10 pick in the draft if the 2021 season were to end today. Minnesota could potentially land a decent quarterback prospect with that pick. However, this current class is considered weak for that position group.
If Minnesota doesn’t make the postseason — which definitely seems possible — it behooves them to try and lose and set up for the short term. I don’t think the Vikings will intentionally lose games. I also don’t think this current team is going anywhere significant.
Vikings GM Rick Spielman has reportedly taken a look at quarterback prospects Carson Strong out of Nevada, Kenny Pickett out of Pittsburgh and Sam Howell out of UNC. You can read more about Pickett and Howell here.
