The Vikings reportedly agreed to terms with former Ravens defensive tackle Michael Pierce.
Pierce is a big body, run-stopping player, who can clog up holes.
CBS Sports had the Vikings choosing a pass-rushing defensive tackle who could be paired with Pierce. Minnesota picked South Carolina’s Javon Kinlaw at No. 22 overall.
Here’s what CBS Sports had to say about the pick:
“Kinlaw is a the best pass-rushing interior defensive lineman in the class and helps the Vikings to reload on defense.”
The outlet also chose a player who could be paired with Adam Thielen in the passing game: Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims. Mims is explosive and adds an extra deep-ball threat for quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Here’s what the outlet said about Mims:
“With Mims, the Vikings get the fastest-rising receiver in this class with sub-4.4 speed and a rebounder’s mentality in jump-ball situations.”
I like both of these picks. I think Mims would play a lot, and Kinlaw, even if the Vikings went for size and run-stopping up front, could come in on passing downs. However, there’s also a chance that Kinlaw is a complete enough player that he can be an every-down defensive lineman.
