Vikings DE Danielle Hunter downgraded to out in Cowboys game

For the Vikings, some bad news: Hunter is out for the rest of the game.

Vikings DE Danielle Hunter suffered a shoulder injury during the Week 8 game against the Cowboys.

The team originally announced that Hunter was questionable to return. Since then, Minnesota has downgraded Hunter to out.

Given Hunter’s presence in the pass rush, he will be greatly missed. He has six sacks and 10 QB hits this year. Expect Everson Griffen to still play on the opposite edge rusher spot.

D.J. Wonnum will likely be taking more reps in Hunter’s absence. Minnesota traded Stephen Weatherly to Denver before the trade deadline. In hindsight, the Vikings could have used Weatherly for this game.

DE Patrick Jones II is also out for the Week 8 game. Outside of Wonnum and Griffen, the Vikings have DE Kenny Willekes as well. The Vikings elevated Willekes from the practice squad to the active roster for the matchup against the Cowboys.

Hunter suffered a neck injury that left him out for all of the 2020 season.
