Vikings are preparing for economic challenges facing NFL revenue

COVID-19 will present economic challenges for the league in 2020 and we’ll see how that impacts future salary caps.

Just like any other business, the NFL will certainly be challenged economically with the COVID-19 pandemic.

If the season goes on as planned, it almost most likely will be without fans.

That’s something that will lose money for teams and that could impact the salary cap landscape across the league.

Vikings cap guru Rob Brzezinksi says the Vikings have already started to plan accordingly.

“There’s going to be some uncertainty with respect to the economics here in the future with what we’re dealing with now with COVID potentially and how that might impact some revenue stuff,” Brzezinksi said via the Star Tribune. “We plan what we do on a three-year basis, so anything that we do today, we’re looking at ’21 and ’22 and so we’re going to have some challenges, but it’s because we have good players. Every year we do our best to figure it out and field the best team that we can.”

The Vikings have more than $32 million in cap space for 2021 per Over The Cap, but that obviously could change if the salary cap changes.

Notable Viking free agents after the 2020 season include Dalvin Cook, Pat Elflein, Anthony Harris and Eric Wilson.
