Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott signed his franchise tender, and the deadline for Dallas and him to work out a long-term deal for 2020 has now passed.
As it stands, Prescott will play under the franchise tag for the Cowboys, putting his future with the team in question.
Some oddsmakers have tried to guess where the Cowboys quarterback will sign next, and in terms of odds, the Vikings are among the favorites to strike a deal with Prescott, according to BetOnline (H/T Mike Leslie of WFAA).
BetOnline has Minnesota with the third-best odds to sign Prescott (8/1).
This has interesting implications for a number of reasons. For one, Prescott is a very good quarterback and could be a big boost to the Vikings. Another is that Minnesota currently has a good quarterback under contract: Kirk Cousins.
Cousins contract runs out after the 2022 NFL season. After that, under his current contract, he will become an unrestricted free agent. The Vikings hypothetically signing Prescott in 2021 would probably mean that the team would trade Cousins.
So it’s interesting to think about, but if I had to take a guess, I would say that the logistics for Prescott coming to the Vikings are tricky, and I think the Cowboys will probably find a way to work out a deal.
