OK, so this one is hard to rationalize the Vikings choosing in the first round. But if an elite passer falls their way, it might be a good idea to take him.
Some people have Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert going in the late stages of the first round, but others have him in the top five. I’d say Herbert is the only player at quarterback the Vikings should take if he’s available.
Otherwise, there will be better ways to add a backup quarterback than with the 25th overall pick. Another option is Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts looks to be more like a project in the draft than some of the other passers, but he showed that he can be effective in college. If Minnesota finds themselves in the third or fourth round, with offensive line and corner already checked off on its selections, then Hurts is a viable option.
Possible options: Oregon’s Justin Herbert, Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts (later in the draft)
