Following Max Holloway’s withdrawal from UFC 272, a number of featherweight contenders are campaigning to fight [autotag]Alexander Volkanovski[/autotag].
The highly anticipated trilogy fight between Volkanovski (23-1 MMA, 10-0 UFC) and Holloway (23-6 MMA, 19-6 UFC) was targeted for March 5 in Las Vegas, but Holloway aggravated an injury that will prevent him from making the date.
In the days since, nearly every 145-pound contender has put up his hand in hopes of sliding in as the replacement opponent for Volkanovski, be it on that same UFC 272 or at a late date, as has been reported.

Although Volkanovski himself pointed to “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung (17-6 MMA, 7-3 UFC) as his most desired opponent, former two-division UFC champ Henry Cejudo (16-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) has teased a comeback, the streaking Josh Emmett (17-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) has volunteered, and so has Giga Chikadze (14-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC), who has a main event with Calvin Kattar teed up at UFC on ESPN 32 this Saturday.
Which opponent is the more likely and most logical, though? That’s what lead staff reporter John Morgan discussed with senior reporter Mike Bohn, staff reporter Danny Segura and MMA Junkie Radio’s George Garcia in the video above.
